The Maternal and Child Health service is universally offered to Victorian families with children up to the age of 6 through local and state government funding. In Port Phillip we aim to promote a caring and friendly place for children in which to grow. The service forges links with every family from the birth of each new baby. The maternal and child health nurses are midwives with further training. They make an initial visit at home, then invite the families to the centre. The centre is within the Poets Grove Family and Children’s centre in Elwood.
Families can access information about child development and behaviour and talk about parenting issues as they arise. First time parents are invited to new parents groups and encouraged to continue to meet as playgroups. We aim to offer a friendly, accessible service to promote health and wellness reflecting the philosophy of Port Phillip municipality in their child centred focus.
The centre in Poets Grove is a 2 nurse centre and operates 5 days a week.
